Study to assess how activity during pregnancy relates to child’s health (Offspring Study)

The overall goal of this multi-site observational cohort study is to study how prenatal patterns of sedentary behavior and physical activity across pregnancy trimesters impact the health of the child. Dr. Sharon Ross will serve as a Co-Investigator on the grant and University of Pittsburgh site PI. This study builds on work being done by Dr. Kara Whitaker (MPI, University of Iowa) and Dr. Bethany Gibbs (MPI, West Virginia University) in the NHLBI-funded Pregnancy 24/7 Study (R01 HL153095) with new assessments of the child’s obesity and cardiovascular disease risk outcomes through 24 months. The current study will use novel methodology in response to the emerging 24-hour behavioral research paradigm, which examines the contribution of sedentary behavior, physical activity, and sleep to overall health. Ultimately, the information from this study will inform future interventions reduce the risk of obesity and cardiovascular disease in children.
